Equipment for EMS Team in Oljeto, Utah
Pr. Mike and the Monument Valley Emergency Medical Services team from Oljeto, Utah, July 19, 2007. This picture is taken at the St.-Mary's-of-the-Moonlight Episcopal Mission near Oljeto at the conclusion of the Vacation Bible School led by members of Central Lutheran and First Presbyterian of Chippewa Falls, as well as Christ Episcopal Church, Westerly, Rhode Island. The team is shown here with jackets and equipment purchased with the generous offerings from Central Lutheran Church, and delivered by FedEx to the EMS team the week before this photo was taken.
This is the EMS crew that helped Maggie Schaefer (Jackie Bailey's daughter, Dorothy Bailey's grand-daughter) after Maggie broke her arm in a fall from a horse during the Navajoland Mission Trip in July, 2006. On the far left of the photo is Leandra Chee Haycock, whose father, Jimmy Chee, prayed Navajo prayers for Maggie at the scene of the fall while waiting for the EMS team to arrive. Items purchased included four complete EMS kits (three are visible in the foreground), four reflective windbreakers, and four reflective parkas; four emergency pocket knives; four Swiss Army weather-proof watches, and other items. These items were purchased so that each EMS team member could carry a complete kit with them at all times. Until these kits came, the team had to share a single kit that was kept at the EMS ambulance garage at Goulding's Trading Post near Oljeto. Retrieving that one kit always extended EMS response times, and delayed treatment for the injured and ill who called 911 on the reservation. Now, emergency medical treatment is much closer and quicker for everyone served by the Monument Valley EMS Team. Thank you, Central Lutheran, on behalf of our Navajo sisters and brothers!
